About Abdul Karim Al Faransi Oud Abiyad

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Released in 2014, Oud Abiyad appeared at a time when Western interest in oud oils and Middle Eastern perfumery was growing. From Abdul Karim Al Faransi and perfumer Anthony Abdul Karim Marmin, this unisex concentrate opens on white pepper and lemon before a heart of sandalwood, musk and leather that settles on a base of Indian oud. The scent moves from bright, fresh spicy and citrusy notes into a woody, powdery and musky dry-down. With a 4.1/5 average and a committed following, the fragrance is often praised for its smooth, non-skanky oud while provoking strong reactions among some wearers.

Our take

I like Oud Abiyad for its dry-down: the oud turns soft, powdery and woody, and the sandalwood and musk add a creamier layer. The opening can feel medicinal and eucalyptic, with lemon and white pepper cutting through, which may put off some people. As an oil it never projects like a spray, yet it stays on my skin for a long time. If you dislike a touch of late sweetness, that is a downside, but for me the approachable, real oud and the price make it a regular reach.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Abdul Karim Al Faransi Oud Abiyad has a tall, squat-rectangular bottle with rounded upper corners and a broad faceted base, its pale yellow-green liquid visible through the clear body. The oversized reflective gold-colored cap and dangling beige “OUD ABIYAD” tag give it a theatrical presence; the presentation is distinctive enough to avoid looking routine, though the body itself remains conventional.

Original or Clone

The strongest case for buying Oud Abiyad itself is its credited authorship: Anthony Abdul Karim Marmin is named as its perfumer. That named authorship belongs to this release, whose character is fresh-spicy, woody and oud-led, rather than to the interpretation. The oversized cap and suspended name tag add a memorable physical presence. One house makes the interpretation we track, but we have no evidence about resemblance, so choosing it remains a reasonable call.
