About Ajmal Abia

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Released in 2014, a period when Middle Eastern and niche houses were blending rich orientals with modern woody accents, Ajmal Abia is a women’s fragrance that balances spice, powder and dense woods. The composition opens on pink pepper with bergamot and lemon brightness, moves through a heart of violet, cardamom and artemisia, and settles into a long, musky woody drydown of patchouli, cedar, guaiac wood and vetiver. The scent reads predominantly woody and musky with powdery and warm spicy facets. It is well received by voters (4.3/5 from 40 votes) and is often noted for strong sillage and lasting power.

Our take

I appreciate Abia for its heavy, powdery woody base and the way the heart smooths the initial bite. The opening can be sharp on skin for a few minutes, then cardamom and violet give a floral-spicy center before the musk, patchouli and guaiac wood take over and linger. The community ratings match my experience: strong sillage and long longevity, which suit winter nights. Downsides are its weight and occasional harshness up front; it can feel too intense for daytime or those who prefer airy florals.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Ajmal Abia’s bottle is an arrestingly unusual object: its rounded, sculptural central container is accompanied by pale, petal-like and darker amber, leaf-shaped forms. The apparent yellow-gold liquid adds warmth, while the clear, faceted form at the left makes the arrangement feel assembled rather than conventional. It’s distinctive, though the lack of any visible label leaves it slightly enigmatic.

Original or Clone

The bottle gives Abia a stronger case than its sparse market footprint alone would suggest. Its rounded, petal-like forms are memorable, and the fragrance’s woody, musky, powdery character has been compelling enough for two houses to attempt interpretations. That attention establishes Abia as a reference worth owning, while the bottle supplies a clear point of difference. We therefore find the original the more convincing choice for readers drawn to both its character and presentation.
