About Al-Jazeera Perfumes Venice

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Venice by Al-Jazeera Perfumes (2019), created by Dominique Ropion, starts with bergamot, apple and petitgrain, then moves to a heart of violet, orange blossom and jasmine, and ends on musk, amberwood and vanilla. The bright citrus and apple top gives a fresh, fruity entry that settles into powdery white florals with a soft violet note, while the base adds warm, creamy musk and a touch of sweet vanilla. Marketed for women and men, it reads as a fresh floral-citrus with a powdery, musky finish. It is generally well received, holding a 4.29/5 average with a majority of voters expressing strong approval.

Our take

I like the clean, sunny opening of bergamot and apple and the way the violet and orange blossom add a soft, powdery skin effect. The musk and vanilla base gives decent staying power, though the scent sometimes reminds me of other musk-floral releases and leans feminine on my skin. Overall it wears well in warm weather and gets compliments, but it is not wildly original.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Al-Jazeera Perfumes Venice has a tall rectangular bottle with clipped lower corners and a broad shoulder, giving the shape a familiar perfume profile. Its pale blue-green body carries lavish multicoloured artwork of a Venetian-style mask, butterflies and dense floral ornament, while a dark teal cap completes the composition. The result is busy, but agreeably distinctive.

Original or Clone

Venice has a clear case for buying it as the original: Dominique Ropion is credited as its perfumer, and that authorship cannot be supplied by an interpretation. Its citrus, white-floral and powdery character gives the release a recognisable point of view, while the decorated bottle adds appeal. Two interpretations from one house confirm that others have judged this character worth pursuing, though no resemblance measure is available.
