About Alfred Dunhill British Leather

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

British Leather (Alfred Dunhill, 2019) is a woody-aromatic leather fragrance for men built around a clear leather accord layered over aromatic and spicy facets. The opening brightens with Guatemalan cardamom, bergamot and lemon tempered by hazelnut and juniper, leading into a heart of mate, pepper, lavender, violet leaf and a touch of orange blossom. The base rests on leather alongside cypress, patchouli, sandalwood and vetiver, which give dry, smoky-woody depth. With a 4.13/5 average from 223 votes and half of voters marking it as a favorite, it is widely read as a rich, refined leather that leans classic rather than modern.

Our take

I like British Leather a lot: the leather is rich and clean, with a woody-smoky base that feels expensive. It reminds me of Memo and Tuscan Leather but a bit more restrained. Longevity is solid on my skin, though projection can sit closer than some expect. I wish it opened with a touch less citrus and a bit more raw leather, but overall it’s a strong offering for colder months and evening wear.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Alfred Dunhill British Leather comes in a compact upright bottle with a mostly cylindrical body, flat vertical sides and saturated orange-amber liquid. Its broad clear-looking lower base, angular raised section and dark patterned cap give the object more character than a plain bottle would suggest. The narrow silver-looking collar adds a crisp visual accent. We judge this bottle distinctive and well-judged.

Original or Clone

The bottle gives British Leather a genuine reason to buy the original: its orange liquid, angular clear-looking base and textured cap make it more distinctive than a routine container. The fragrance is described through Aromatic, Woody and Fresh Spicy accords, with Leather also present, so its character is clear enough to have attracted imitation. Two houses have made interpretations of it. That attention supports the original's standing, though a reader choosing an interpretation is making a reasonable choice without comparative evidence.
