Opus XV – King Blue makes a strong first impression through its near-black body and pale cream flared cap. The upright rectangle remains familiar Amouage territory, but the oversized fan-shaped top, gold-toned collar and small circular detail give the bottle extra presence. Opus XV – King Blue has earned genuine reference status. Four houses have tried to reproduce this woody, oud-and-amber fragrance, giving it standing beyond a single release. The accords make its character specific rather than generic: woody, oud and amber lead its community profile. Alexis Grugeon and Hamid Merati-Kashani are credited perfumers, giving the original a clear authored identity that an interpretation does not share. We therefore find the original the more grounded choice, while an interpretation remains reasonable for readers who accept the unknowns.
