Outlands by Amouage (2024), created by Cécile Zarokian, is a widely liked unisex amber-led composition that many wearers rate highly. With a 4.32/5 average from 1,720 votes and 63% of voters marking it as loved, it opens on a bright, spicy citrus mix of frankincense, bergamot, lemon, cardamom, elemi and Sichuan pepper before moving into a spicy, herbal heart of patchouli, saffron, cumin, wormwood, orange blossom, geranium and rose. The base is resinous and sweet, built on frankincense, oud, vanilla, benzoin, labdanum, ambergris and birch for a warm, balsamic-vanilla finish. Many note notable longevity and strong projection while describing the overall profile as smoother than some house signatures.
Our take
I find Outlands to be a very wearable amber with a pleasing frankincense-to-vanilla arc. The opening brightens with citrus and pepper, then folds into a warm, resinous core that stays creamy and long on my skin. Strength and sillage are real assets here, but I also feel it plays safer than typical Amouage releases and can read as expensive for a scent that some call designer-like. For those who want a polished, long-lasting amber with restrained bite, it works well; for collectors chasing the house’s more daring pieces, it may feel tame.
