Find Amouage Reasons

Amouage Reasons is the benchmark for this scent profile. Alternatives may be worth comparing, but they are independent products and we do not present them as equivalent to Amouage's own fragrance.

They do not replace the original fragrance, its presentation, or the version created under the brand's own quality control. If that is what you are looking for, search the official site or trusted retailers below.

About Amouage Reasons

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Reasons is a 2024 release from Amouage for women and men, composed by Bertrand Duchaufour. The pyramid opens with cardamom, pink pepper and cinnamon tempered by a nutty hazelnut facet, then moves into a heart where pine and cypriol meet herbal, slightly fruity davana alongside cashmeran, white amber and patchouli. The base rounds the composition with palo santo, myrrh, sandalwood, benzoin, cedarwood, oakmoss, vetiver, labdanum and musk, creating a predominantly woody, warm-spicy and amber profile with balsamic and powdery undertones. The result reads as a resinous, warm wood scent that divides opinion: about a third of voters love it while a notable minority dislike or hate it.

Our take

I appreciate Reasons for its bold resin-wood center; the palo santo, myrrh and hazelnut give it character and depth. At times the davana and cypriol pull metallic or medicinal on my skin, and projection often stays close. With mixed votes and split reactions, I reach for this when I want something moody and woody rather than crowd-pleasing, but I wish it lasted more consistently across wearers.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Reasons keeps the Essences style clean, with a pale rounded body, sloping shoulders and a wide cylindrical cap. A dark plaque labelled Reasons gives the monochrome front a welcome jolt, while vertical detailing near the base stops the bottle looking completely plain. The cap still dominates, creating a calm, almost architectural silhouette. It’s a neat contemporary presentation rather than a theatrical one, and the darker plaque is what makes it memorable. The shape itself is restrained in detail, but the contrast gives the bottle enough character to stand apart.

Original or Clone

Bertrand Duchaufour’s credited authorship gives Reasons a clear identity as the named composition behind its woody, warm-spicy, amber character. Three houses have made interpretations in our tracked set, which marks this fragrance as a reference others consider worth reproducing. The original has the stronger case for readers who want Duchaufour’s authored release and that reference point; choosing an interpretation remains reasonable, since we have no evidence to rank any of them against it.
