About Amouage The Library Collection Opus IV

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Opus IV (Amouage, 2010) by Jacques Flori opens on bright coriander, mandarin, grapefruit and lemon before moving into a spicy-resin heart of caraway, cardamom, elemi, rose hip, rose and violet leaf, and settles on incense, labdanum and musk. The construction produces an aromatic amber profile where citrus freshness and warm spices ride over a balsamic, slightly smoky base. Market reception is strong overall (4.04/5 from 914 votes) but split: many rate it highly while a notable minority find its resinous spice and incense too heavy. The fragrance is presented as unisex and reads as a mature, incense-forward chypre-oriental.

Our take

I like how the citrus brightens the opening and then gives way to a rich, resinous heart, go very light with this one because the incense and spices can quickly dominate; longevity and sillage are excellent on me, though a few people will catch a cumin/body-odor vibe that I don’t get, so try before you commit.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Opus IV follows the Library Collection’s softened rectangular format, pairing a pale cream bottle with a tall vertically striped cylindrical cap and a separate deep red stepped box. The red base brings most of the drama, giving the calm bottle a richer, more bookish character. A small Amouage plaque and Library Collection lettering keep the set connected to the house. The bottle itself is fairly conventional, which isn’t a serious flaw, but the box does much of the memorable work. Together, the pieces feel formal, warm and carefully coordinated.

Original or Clone

Jacques Flori’s authorship gives The Library Collection Opus IV a clear point of distinction: this aromatic, amber, warm-spicy fragrance is a named composition, not merely a bundle of notes for another house to echo. A single interpretation is currently tracked, which confirms its niche reference status without telling us how closely it resembles the original. The bottle’s unusual cap and red box strengthen the case for choosing the original, especially for readers who care about authorship and presentation.
