Released in 2016, at a time when oud-focused compositions and Middle Eastern influences were moving more into mainstream niche perfume, Amouroud's Oud After Dark is a unisex scent that mixes fruity, floral and tobacco accords around a resinous oud core. It opens on apricot, osmanthus, saffron, dianthus and pepper, moves into plum, suede, agarwood (oud), rose and olibanum, and dries down to tobacco, amber, vanilla, ebony and musk. With a 4.2/5 average from 178 votes and a large share of 'love' and 'like' ratings, it is broadly well regarded, though some wearers call it synthetic or polarising.
Our take
I enjoy the plum and apricot top notes against the warm oud and tobacco base; suede and rose keep it mature and slightly floral. On my skin it lasts well into the night and projects nicely in cold weather. I understand the complaints about a synthetic edge on some sprays, so I use a light hand and reserve this one for winter evenings when it really sings.

Amouroud Oud After Dark comes in a tall, substantial-looking rectangular bottle with clipped corners, angled shoulders and a polygonal base. Its near-black opaque body, glossy reflective facets, and bright gold-coloured cap and label create a dramatic contrast. The broad, squat faceted cap gives the bottle a confident finish, making this a handsome and somewhat distinctive object.
