Our take
I enjoy Modern Leather as a daytime winter option that keeps Aramis character without the old-school heaviness. The basil and thyme give it a lively top that keeps the leather from feeling blunt, and the geranium-patchouli heart keeps it aromatic rather than flat. It is not a bold, in-your-face leather, so if you want raw animalic power this will frustrate you. Performance is variable on my skin, but overall I find it a smart, wearable update.

Aramis Modern Leather has a tall rectangular bottle with rounded shoulders and curved lower edges, giving it a familiar fragrance shape. Its pale amber liquid sits behind a clear-looking outer edge and base outline, while a dark chamfered label with a gold-coloured border and a ridged cylindrical gold-coloured cap add polish. The result is conventional rather than distinctive, but the restrained label treatment is pleasing.
