About Atelier Cologne Café Tuberosa

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Café Tuberosa is a polarizing release from Atelier Cologne introduced in 2017 and composed by Jérôme Epinette. Marketed for women and men, it opens on Guatemalan cardamom with bright Calabrian bergamot and Sicilian mandarin that give way to a heart where realistic coffee and Indian tuberose meet Damask rose. The base of cacao pod, Bourbon vanilla and Indonesian patchouli leaf keeps the trail warm and spicy while softening the florals. With a 3.97/5 average from 1,475 votes and a split between strong fans and detractors, the scent is read as a coffee-forward, cacao-tinged white floral that divides opinion.

Our take

I like the concept and the opening is thrilling: the coffee and cacao feel very real and dark on my skin. That initial stage is the perfume at its best. On some wears the composition later leans hard into a sweet, full tuberose and rose drydown that reads much more feminine and syrupy than the first minutes, which can be disappointing. Performance varies for me; some days it lasts and sits close, other days it fades sooner. The voting split reflects my mixed feelings, there is brilliance here, but it is uneven.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Café Tuberosa’s bottle is a conventional rectangular form with rounded corners and shoulders, and its pale yellow liquid is visible through the transparent container. The dark burgundy cylindrical cap and large red label make a forceful colour pairing, while the label’s concentric lines and mixed lettering add decoration. It is neatly presented, but the basic bottle remains ordinary.

Original or Clone

Jérôme Epinette’s authorship gives Café Tuberosa its clearest reason to stand apart: it is a credited composition by a named perfumer. Its Warm Spicy, Coffee and Cacao accords give the two tracked interpretations a concrete character to reproduce, and two houses have taken up that challenge. That number signals the fragrance’s standing as a reference, though it tells us nothing about how closely either interpretation resembles it. On the evidence available, the original has the stronger case for readers who care about Epinette’s named work.
