About Atelier des Ors Iris Fauve

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Iris Fauve (Atelier des Ors, 2017), created by Marie Salamagne, is a unisex amber-woody composition built around a dry, powdery iris set against warm spicy and resinous accords. The pyramid opens on iris, cinnamon and bergamot, moves into a heart of Haitian vetiver, patchouli and cypriol (nagarmotha), and settles on myrrh, labdanum, musk and liatris. The combination produces a balsamic, amber-forward iris that often reads woody and earthy with a cinnamon powder edge. Reception is generally positive but divided over how dominant patchouli and the resin base are versus a clear iris. It holds a 3.94/5 average from 710 votes.

Our take

I like Iris Fauve for its warm, resinous take on iris and the powdery cinnamon lift, but patchouli often takes center stage for me and can mask the iris. Longevity is generally good on my skin, though projection swings between shy and solid depending on application. Best for cold weather and evening wear; I reach for this in fall or winter when the balsamic base feels right.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Iris Fauve's bottle has a broad, rounded-rectangular body, curved shoulders and a narrower neck, capped by a broad black rounded cap. Its transparent yellow-gold liquid contains numerous suspended gold-coloured flecks, while thin dark-gold lines radiate from the black front label. The silhouette is familiar, but this combination makes the bottle unusually distinctive rather than routine.

Original or Clone

Marie Salamagne's credited authorship gives Iris Fauve a specific point of origin that an interpretation doesn't share. The original also makes a stronger object of the perfume: its suspended gold-coloured flecks and radiating dark-gold lines give the bottle a distinctive presence, despite its familiar silhouette. For readers who care about both the perfumer and the presentation, the original is the more convincing choice; choosing an interpretation remains understandable.
