Find Azzaro Silver Black

Azzaro Silver Black is the benchmark for this scent profile. Alternatives may be worth comparing, but they are independent products and we do not present them as equivalent to Azzaro's own fragrance.

About Azzaro Silver Black

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Perfumer Francoise Caron is a veteran creator known for masculine fougères and mainstream house releases; Silver Black (Azzaro, 2005) fits squarely in that lineage. Marketed for men, it reads as an aromatic woody fragrance with a citrus lift and clear spicy facets. It opens on apple, lime, bergamot and anise, moves into a heart of juniper, coriander and cardamom, and settles on vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood and white musk. With a 3.9/5 average from 862 votes, the scent attracts steady approval while dividing opinions on its vetiver-heavy drydown and vintage fougère character.

Our take

I like Silver Black for its old-school fougère feel and the way the top fruit and anise smell real, not synthetic. The vetiver and patchouli in the drydown give it a darker, more masculine edge that I either enjoy or find too heavy depending on my mood. Performance is hit-or-miss by bottle and concentration, but when it holds it runs moderate to long on my skin. The bottle quality annoyed me and I wish projection were more consistent, yet at a bargain price this one still earns a spot in my rotation.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Azzaro Silver Black’s bottle has a tall rectangular silhouette, with beveled upper corners that keep the shape from feeling entirely routine. Its very dark blue-black appearance, silver band marked “SILVER BLACK,” and large raised A give it a crisp, slightly severe character. The lower “AZZARO POUR HOMME” marking is easy to place, though the overall design remains more conventional than memorable.

Original or Clone

Françoise Caron’s credited authorship gives Silver Black the strongest reason to buy as the original rather than its tracked interpretation. The fragrance’s aromatic, woody, citrus profile has enough definition to explain why one house has attempted to reproduce it, though that fact says nothing about how close the result is. The bottle’s dark-and-silver presence reinforces that sense of a specific release rather than a generic accord exercise.
