Released in 2022, Ambre Safrano by BDK Parfums arrived at a moment when niche houses were exploring louder, resinous ambers and leather-tinged orientals. Created by Julien Rasquinet for women and men, it opens with a sharp saffron and black pepper bite that leans into dry leather and olibanum; plum and rose add a dark fruit and floral undercurrent while oak, sandalwood and vanilla bean round the base into a warm amber-woody finish. The fragrance is often described as bold and room-filling, and its 3.68/5 rating from 432 voters reflects a clearly divided audience rather than uniform praise.
Our take
I find Ambre Safrano hard to ignore: saffron and pepper hit first, then a thick, dusty leather takes over with amber and a woody, slightly boozy dry down. The strength and leather character work for cold nights and formal wear, but the loud opening and heavy masculinity will put off anyone who wants a subtle amber. The community split is visible in the votes; I respect the craft here, though it is not an every-day scent for me.
