Released in 2019, at a moment when many niche houses leaned into material-driven, modern compositions, Nuit De Sable is BDK Parfums' warm-spicy creation by Marie Schnirer. Marketed for women and men, it opens on a sharp, freshly grated nutmeg and green Guatemalan cardamom edge that moves into a dry, sandy heart where Turkish rose and soft sandalwood sit against a powdery sand accord. The base keeps nutmeg alive alongside tonka, ambroxan and warm musk, giving the scent a spicy-woody, slightly ambered character. Reception is mixed: rated about 3.6/5 from 661 votes, it has both many fans and clear detractors.
Our take
I find Nuit De Sable striking when the nutmeg and cardamom open, very immediate and spicy, and I like how the dry sand and sandalwood calm things down into a warm, powdery base. The strong opening can feel sharp or odd to some, and a few people perceive an animalic or bug-spray quality early on, which I can see; that first half hour is the most divisive. Overall it works best for cool weather and evening wear, and for me it rewards patience once it settles.

BDK Parfums Nuit De Sable comes in a tall rectangular bottle with rounded corners and a broad, flat base. The transparent bottle holds amber-gold liquid. A white rectangular label with a black border and black uppercase title sits on the front, beneath an oversized, glossy-looking black cap. The amber, white and black contrast is crisp, but the bottle remains conventional rather than memorable.

Marie Schnirer's authorship gives Nuit De Sable a distinct reason to buy as the original. Its warm-spicy, fresh-spicy and woody character has prompted one house to attempt to reproduce it, giving the fragrance modest reference status.
