About BDK Parfums Tubéreuse Impériale

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Released in 2016 by BDK Parfums and created by perfumer Cécile Matton, Tubéreuse Impériale arrived during a mid-2010s wave of modern white florals and tuberose reinterpretations. Marketed for women and men, it opens on geranium and rosebay willowherb before a rich heart of Indian tuberose, ylang-ylang, jasmine sambac, Egyptian jasmine and iris. The base wraps in Madagascar vanilla, benzoin, sandalwood, patchouli, cashmeran and a hint of incense and cypress, giving a sweet, creamy floral with woody and amber facets. Rated 4.0/5 from 1,387 votes, the scent is generally well liked but often prompts divided reactions over its sweetness and ylang presence.

Our take

I find Tubéreuse Impériale well made and clearly focused on a sweet, creamy tuberose framed by vanilla and benzoin. The jasmine and ylang push it toward a tropical, sometimes bubblegum character that I enjoy in small doses but that will overwhelm people who dislike very sweet or soapy florals. Performance sits between moderate and long on my skin with medium to strong sillage. I recommend it for spring days or cooler evenings, but not for those sensitive to heavy white florals or sharp ylang.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

BDK Parfums Tubéreuse Impériale has a clear rectangular bottle with rounded corners and pale yellow liquid. Its oversized gold-colored cap extends beyond the neck, while the dark strip beneath it and the white label with gold border add some welcome character to the otherwise restrained presentation. The broad clear lower base keeps the bottle visually neat rather than lavish.

Original or Clone

Authorship gives BDK Parfums Tubéreuse Impériale its clearest claim on attention: Cécile Matton is credited as its perfumer, a fact an interpretation cannot share. Its white-floral, tuberose and woody character has a clear identity, and the bottle’s oversized gold-colored cap and offset label give the object a pleasing presence. With only a single house represented among the interpretations we track, the case is still strongest for buying the original.
