About BDK Parfums Vanille Caviar

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Vanille Caviar (BDK Parfums, 2025) is a unisex amber-vanilla fragrance by Alexandra Carlin. It opens on a spicy, slightly green note of calamus with dark, fruity cassis that gives a juicy edge before the heart settles into a gourmand vanille lifted by osmanthus and a bitter cacao facet. The base repeats vanilla over labdanum and Peru balsam, creating a woody, balsamic drydown with a warm resinous depth. The blend reads as a warm, spicy-ambered vanilla with woody and fruity accents. Reception is split: about 40% of voters mark it as loved while roughly a quarter dislike or hate it, and the overall rating sits at 3.63/5.

Our take

I find Vanille Caviar interesting but uneven. The heart of vanilla, labdanum and cacao gives a rich, wintry warmth that I enjoy for evening wear, and its woody amber backbone holds well on skin. At the same time the opening can smell medicinal or sharp to me, and the Peru balsam can push toward an animalic or resinous edge that not everyone will like. Longevity tends to be reliable and sillage runs from moderate to strong depending on application. Sample it on skin before committing; it will split opinions.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

BDK Parfums Vanille Caviar comes in a broad rectangular bottle with rounded corners and a substantial-looking clear lower section. Bright yellow-to-pale-golden liquid sits beneath a large rounded-rectangular gold-colored cap with a contrasting central strip. The white, gold-bordered label is neatly legible, though the overall presentation remains conventional rather than memorable.

Original or Clone

Alexandra Carlin’s authorship gives Vanille Caviar the clearest reason to buy the original: this is a named composition, not merely a set of accords. The fragrance’s amber, balsamic and woody character has prompted interpretations from two houses, which confirms that it has a recognizable place in the market without telling us how those versions perform. For readers who care about the perfumer’s credited work, the original is the more meaningful choice; choosing an interpretation remains reasonable when that authorship matters less.
