About Boadicea the Victorious Aurica

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Aurica is a polarising but often admired release from Boadicea the Victorious, introduced in 2020 and created by perfumer Christian Provenzano for women and men. It is a woody-sweet fragrance that opens on pineapple, mandarin and cedar needles with a floral touch of ylang-ylang, then shifts to a heart of marigold, Cambodian oud, jasmine and rose before settling on a rich base of musk, vetiver, patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla, moss and amber. The composition reads woody, sweet and fruity up front with powdery and musky facets underneath. Many voters praise its lasting power and projection, and a sizable portion rate its longevity and sillage as notably strong, which helps explain the mix of strong fans and vocal detractors.

Our take

I enjoy Aurica for its bright, almost golden opening and the dense woody-oud drydown; pineapple and mandarin give a lively start, then marigold, oud and rose add weight and the base truly hangs around. Performance is impressive on my skin, but the musk can feel too heavy at times and the fruit sometimes leans synthetic, so I tend to wear it on cooler evenings.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Aurica places a stylised figure at the heart of its large gold-coloured medallion, framed by an interlaced border. Nearly colourless liquid remains visible behind it, while straight facets along the lower edge interrupt the otherwise rounded profile. The tiered metal cap repeats the warm ornamental treatment above. With its thick, broad base, the bottle feels heavy and firmly planted. It’s formal, decorative and decidedly conspicuous, but the figurative centre gives it a clearer identity than versions relying on knotwork alone. That detail makes Aurica genuinely distinctive within the range.

Original or Clone

The case for buying Aurica itself is strongest if its bottle matters to you: the broad circular body, oversized gold-coloured medallion and tiered cap make it unusually distinctive. Its woody, sweet and aromatic character has drawn five interpretations from three houses, a meaningful sign that this release has attracted attention. Christian Provenzano is credited as perfumer, giving the original a named creative source. The evidence favours the original, though it does not tell us how closely any interpretation resembles it.
