About Boadicea the Victorious Boadicea Glorious

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Boadicea Glorious opens with a bright fruity top of raspberry, pineapple, apple, cardamom and cassis, moves into a spicy-floral heart of elemi resin, nutmeg, rose and jasmine, and settles on a dense woody base of guaiac wood, cedar and sandalwood rounded by moss, patchouli, amber, vanilla and musk. Created by Christian Provenzano for Boadicea the Victorious in 2012 and marketed for women and men, it reads as a fruity-woody fragrance with sweet, powdery floral facets and warm vanilla in the drydown. With a 4.03/5 average from 746 votes and a 51% unisex vote, most users rate it positively though some note familiar sandalwood echoes.

Our take

I like Glorious for its juicy, jammy opening and the solid quality of the woods that follow, but I’m put off by uneven projection on my skin. The fruit and cardamom make the first hour lively, then cedar and guaiac slide into a soft sandalwood-vanilla finish that feels cozy and slightly powdery. Community votes show lots of love and likes, which makes sense, yet I find it too close to other sandalwood-led scents to be truly unique. Worth trying, but I wouldn’t call it a must-have because the performance can be inconsistent.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Boadicea Glorious changes the familiar knotwork centre for a star-like interlaced design, giving the rounded bottle a more decanter-like character. The amber-coloured body, dark cap and silver-and-black plaque create a strong ceremonial contrast, while the clear lower section lightens the broad outline. It’s unapologetically grand, and anyone who prefers quiet packaging will probably find it excessive. I like that the central emblem has a clear point of view, though. This feels more individual than a standard bottle dressed up with decoration.

Original or Clone

The bottle alone gives Boadicea Glorious a strong case: its rounded, plaque-front design is distinctive enough to matter when the original is set beside an interpretation. Only one interpretation from one house is tracked, so this is a narrow field rather than a crowded challenge. Christian Provenzano is credited as perfumer, giving the woody, fruity and sweet fragrance a named act of composition. On these grounds, the original is the more compelling purchase, while the interpretation remains a reasonable alternative for readers unconcerned with that authorship and object.
