Notorious by Boadicea the Victorious (2016) is a unisex fragrance built from a bold pyramid: a spicy citrus opening of cinnamon, saffron, ylang-ylang and Sicilian mandarin gives way to a heart of dark chocolate, incense, castoreum and rock rose, and settles on a base of leather, sandalwood, moss, patchouli, Haitian vetiver, Virginia cedar and amber. The combination produces a warm spicy, woody leather accord with clear smoky and chocolate facets and an animalic edge. Rated 4.05/5 with a notable split in opinions, the scent is often described as strong, intense, and suited to cooler seasons.
Our take
I find Notorious hard to ignore: the dark chocolate and incense opening is rich and gourmand, then leather and castoreum push it into bold, smoky territory. It works best in fall and winter and on nights when you want presence; longevity and sillage often deliver. That said, the smoke and animalic notes can feel heavy or choking on some skins, and reports of batch variation make me cautious about full bottles. Not for casual wearers, but rewarding if you like deep, uncompromising compositions.
