The Bottle

Sadu makes a confident entrance with its saturated red circular body and broad gold-coloured cap. The oversized medallion combines an interlaced border with an upright figure-like centre above curved bands, giving the front an emblematic quality. Nothing here tries to be quiet or minimalist, and the bottle should be easy to notice across a room. That directness is either its charm or its weakness. I like the assurance of the red-and-gold pairing, though it makes Sadu feel more theatrical than relaxed or everyday.

Original or Clone

The bottle gives Sadu a genuine reason to remain with the original: its rounded red-and-gold medallion design has more presence than a generic container. Its floral, musky, rose-led character has still attracted attempts from three houses, which makes the release a recognised reference rather than an obscure target. That is not proof that every reader needs the original, but the distinctive object and its standing together make it the more compelling purchase when the bottle matters.
