Oro Nero is a warm spicy woody leather fragrance from Bois 1920 released in 2017 for women and men. It opens on saffron and cloves layered over bright orange and bergamot, moves into a heart of patchouli, sandalwood, cedar and ylang-ylang, and settles on leather, vanilla and amber. The blend creates a dense, spicy leather accord with a powdery vanilla sweetness and a faint animalic depth. Our take
I like Oro Nero for its raw leather core and the long, smoky vanilla dry down. The opening is aggressive, spicy, citrusy and a little odd, and that will put some people off, but after the first hour it calms into smooth clove, warm amber and soft sandalwood that lasts. The community ratings mirror my take: many love the projection and longevity, a few dislike the upfront blast. I wear it on cold nights when I want something bold and different.

The Bottle
Oro Nero’s bottle has a pleasingly severe presence: its broad, upright black rectangle and rounded shoulders keep the shape restrained, while the oversized faceted cap brings a sharper black-and-gold-toned contrast. The dark branding is an understated detail rather than decoration. We find the bottle more distinctive than the conventional perfume format beneath it, and convincingly stylish.
Original or Clone
The bottle is a real reason to consider buying Oro Nero, but the case for choosing the original is not overwhelming. Its warm spicy, woody, leather character has prompted one house to make an interpretation, giving the fragrance some reference status without making that status broad. With no credited perfumer and no comparative evidence about the interpretation, we cannot build a stronger argument than the bottle’s appeal and the fact that this particular scent has been singled out for reproduction.
