About Bond No 9 Harrods for Him

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Harrods for Him is built on a lavender-led aromatic composition that moves from a spicy, green opening into a herbal-floral heart and a dry woody-musky base. Top impressions of lavender, star anise and rhubarb give a slightly sharp, mentholated lift, while chamomile and violet leaf add a powdery, floral middle. The finish settles on birch, sandalwood and synthetic musk, creating a leathery-woody warmth. Created by Laurent Le Guernec for Bond No.9 in 2009 and marketed for men, the scent reads as a classic aromatic woody fragrance. It is well rated by users (4.35/5 from 69 votes) and has a steady group of fans.

Our take

I like Harrods for Him for its clear lavender core and firm woody base; it smells like a mature aromatic from the late 80s and early 90s but with a modern synthetic musk finish. Longevity and projection tend to be strong, which I appreciate for colder months and evening wear. At the same time the opening can feel familiar to some and a touch synthetic, so it will not win over everyone who prefers raw or highly natural scents.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Harrods for Him takes Bond No. 9's waisted shape into a dark, glossy palette. Gold-coloured linear decoration winds across the near-black body, giving the front a maze-like quality, while the circular NYC Harrods medallion supplies a clear point of focus. The broad black cap keeps the top graphic and uncomplicated. It is theatrical without being especially luxurious, and the dense lines may feel more assertive than refined. Still, the silhouette and unusual artwork make it easy to recognise, with enough presence to hold its own on a dressing table.

Original or Clone

We think the original is worth buying when the bottle is part of the appeal: its broad flared silhouette and dark, gold-lined face are unusually memorable. The market case is otherwise thin, with only two interpretations from one house tracked, so that record says little about broad reference status. Laurent Le Guernec’s credited authorship supplies a clearer reason to seek this release itself, even though a reasonable reader may still choose an interpretation.
