About Bond No 9 Wall Street

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Released in 2004, Wall Street by Bond No 9 arrived during a period when niche brands pushed conceptual, city-themed scents and aquatics were in vogue. Created by David Apel for women and men, it leans aquatic-citrus with an aromatic edge: cooling cucumber and seaweed meet bright lemon and bitter orange, while pistachio, vetiver, leather, ambergris, lavender and musk give dry, mineral and green depth. The fragrance is known to divide opinion, with a sizable group of fans and a nearly equal number of detractors drawn to its fresh, saline opening and the way it changes on skin.

Our take

I like the idea and the opening is lively, sharp lemon, cucumber and a salty marine note, but skin chemistry makes this one unpredictable. On clothing it stays clean and long; on some skins the citrus and natural elements turn soapy or sweaty. Projection and longevity often err toward moderate to long, so sample it and try it on fabric before buying a full bottle.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Wall Street gives the recurring shape a darker, more ornate finish. The glossy body pinches sharply at the middle before opening into flared shoulders and a broad lower section, while repeated gold circular motifs spread across the front like a dense field of seals. A flattened dark cap keeps the top relatively clean, though its highlights add a flashy note. No readable fragrance or city name appears to explain the decoration, so it comes across as a statement piece rather than an everyday design. Bold it certainly is, with little interest in understatement.

Original or Clone

Wall Street earns the original a stronger case through its bottle: the narrowed silhouette and repeated gold ornament give it a presence that a plainer object would lack. David Apel’s credited authorship adds a distinction an interpretation cannot share. Four interpretations from three houses are tracked, which confirms that this aquatic, citrus-aromatic fragrance has attracted attention. That interest does not settle resemblance, but it makes the original the more defensible choice for readers who care about the named composition and its distinctive object.
