Margaux Le Paih Guérin, an experienced perfumer in contemporary niche work, created Oud Candy for BORNTOSTANDOUT® in 2025. This unisex fragrance opens on a creamy, sugary accord of brown sugar, milk and nutty facets that lead into a floral heart of white flowers, while a dense base of oud, leather, caramel, saffron and dark woods gives it a woody, sweet and animalic core. The scent is often described as bold and high-impact rather than subtle, and listener response is divided: it holds a mid-range rating of 3.42/5 from 164 votes and draws both enthusiastic fans and vocal critics.
Our take
I respect the concept, sugar and oud can work, but Oud Candy feels like too much at once. The opening is a syrupy brown-sugar blast that reads synthetic to me, and the leather/wood base slides into a shoe-polish vibe I dislike. The one thing it does well is performance: it lasts and projects. That makes it useful for someone who wants a loud winter evening scent, but I find it tiring after a few hours; I would only buy a sample first.

Its neck pulls sharply inward before widening into the shoulders, while the broad matching cap repeats the horizontal shape. The low-contrast front text keeps the presentation restrained; the silhouette is genuinely distinctive.
Original or Clone
The case for buying Oud Candy rests first on its credited perfumer, Margaux Le Paih Guérin. That authorship belongs to this release, whose character is woody, sweet and oud-led; an interpretation can attempt the fragrance but cannot carry the credited composition. Its dark red, sharply waisted bottle also has some character. Two houses currently make interpretations, but the original remains the more defensible purchase.
