About Bottega Veneta Knot

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Knot is a citrus-floral fragrance from Bottega Veneta launched in 2014 and created by perfumer Daniela Andrier. Presented for women, it is built around a bright neroli-led citrus accord where mandarin, clementine and a zesty lime and orange blossom opening gives way to a white floral heart of lavender, peony and white rose, all resting on a soft musk and tonka base. The result reads as a clean, slightly sweet citrus-floral with a subtle powdery warmth. It rates 3.9/5 from 1,931 votes and is somewhat polarizing, with a notable split between those who love its neroli character and those put off by the lime-lavender phase.

Our take

I like Knot’s fresh neroli and mandarin opening; it smells clean and modern at first. On my skin the lime hangs around and often clashes with the lavender, turning a bit soapy before it settles into a musky tonka finish. Projection is modest, and it moves very close after an hour so it rarely lasts a full day on me. I appreciate the neat, understated direction, but the uneven middle makes it hit-or-miss, excellent for short daytime wear, less so if you want steady development.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Knot’s bottle uses a broad, low rectangular body with rounded shoulders and lower corners, a familiar base that would be unremarkable alone. The large gold-toned cylindrical upper section changes that assessment, however: its prominent sculptural knot-like form gives the otherwise conventional silhouette a memorable focal point. Centered “BOTTEGA VENETA” and “KNOT” text keeps the front restrained.

Original or Clone

Daniela Andrier’s credited authorship gives Knot a clear reason to buy the original: no interpretation carries her name. The prominent knot-shaped top gives the original a second, tangible distinction alongside its citrus and white-floral character. Two houses make interpretations, confirming that this release has attracted attention, but that count says nothing about which purchase suits a reader. We find the original’s case stronger on authorship and object, while an interpretation remains a reasonable choice.
