About Boucheron Patchouli d’Angkor

The fragrance these clones are inspired by.

Nathalie Lorson is a seasoned perfumer known for clear, structured compositions that often pair fruit and white floral facets with modern woods. Her work for Boucheron in 2019, Patchouli d’Angkor, is a unisex woody-oriental that leans on a pronounced patchouli core layered with pear and bergamot in the opening, a jasmine heart threaded with bourbon pepper, and a dry down of white musk and guaiac wood. The scent reads as woody and musky with a white-floral sweetness and a warm spicy undertone. With a 3.97/5 average from 214 votes, the fragrance is generally liked but prompts divided reactions over its powdery aspects.

Our take

I like the way the pear and jasmine make the patchouli feel cleaner and softer than usual; the white musk keeps it neat rather than dirty. That said, the opening can feel oddly powdery on me and heats up badly in warm weather, which will bother some people. Longevity tends to be good and projection moves from moderate to strong in the first hour, so it works well for daytime fall and winter wear. Overall I find it an interesting, wearable take on patchouli, not a must-have but worth trying if you like creamy, slightly sweet patchouli.

A Closer Look

The Bottle

Boucheron Patchouli d’Angkor has a tall cylindrical bottle whose straight sides rise to rounded shoulders and a broad, stepped clear-looking base. Its pale ivory, largely opaque liquid and large white cap give the object an unusual visual quietness, while the gold-toned collar and bordered white label add polish. We find this bottle distinctive rather than routine.

Original or Clone

Nathalie Lorson’s authorship gives the original a reason to matter beyond a matching brief: Patchouli d’Angkor is a specific composition, not merely a list of woody, patchouli, white-floral and musky associations. The bottle also has genuine presence, with its pale opaque-looking liquid, white cap and stepped gold-toned collar. We track two interpretations from two houses, which confirms that this fragrance has attracted attempts to reproduce it, but the credited perfumer remains the clearest case for buying the original.
